Halo Guide/Wraith

Crew: 1 driver
Armament: Plasma Mortar

Notes: The Wraith is used by the Covenant as a long-range weapons platform, bombarding enemies with weapons fire from extreme ranges. It is heavily armored, requiring tremendous amounts of firepower to destroy, and shoots powerful blasts of plasma into the air, dealing heavy damage to anything it falls upon. Much like the Ghost, the Wraith is capable of strafing, though it moves more slowly. The Master Chief cannot control the Wraith, and faces the vehicle in several missions.

Against:
The Wraith moves slowly, and would be extremely susceptible to the trusty rocket were it not so damn good at strafing! That being said, Wraiths really don't like Scorpions, though even the mighty shell blasted from the Scorpion's cannon requires two hits to take one down. If you have to attack one on foot, use an RL, though you will have to fire from cover at decent range so the rocket can't be dodged and the plasma can be avoided. If attacking, try to aim for the rear or sides (the weaker parts of the vehicle). If attacking a Wraith in the Banshee, try and get it from behind, as the plasma blast tends to seriously damage the vehicle (it takes a surprisingly long time to take out a Wraith with Fuel Rods, so have patience). Well, there's a lot you shouldn't do against a Wraith, so here's a quick list. Most points are pretty straight forward, but here they are anyway. :)

Don't…

  • -attack in a Warthog unless you feel confident of your driving ability or you have to (the plasma blast flips Warthogs).
  • -rely on solely on grenades - you usually won't have enough.
  • -charge a Wraith with an empty Needler. :P
  • -let yourself get hit by the plasma (you should try and attack from behind whenever possible).
  • -stop moving when attacking from the front; if you stop, it's very hard to dodge the plasma when it heads your way.
  • -jump when a plasma blast lands next to you - it'll probably send you flying. If you keep strafing you'll more likely dodge the heavy damage radius and live to fire off another rocket.
  • -try to melee it.
  • -try and kill it with a Sniper Rifle, Pistol, Needler, Plasma Pistol, or AR.
  • -waste all your rockets on the Grunts standing next to it.

Basically, I would suggest you stick to RLs whenever possible. However, it pays to be creative. Jack seemed particularly fond of wedging himself under Wraiths with his Ghost and firing at their bellies (this worked well, though the resultant explosion tended to blast him down to half health. :P). Sometimes it's also possible to take out the driver before he gets in the vehicle, or destroy it before the driver gets in.
