Guide/Hunter Armament: Fuel Rod Guns Armor: ü/heavy + alloy shield Hunters stand 12' tall, though in their combat state they contract to approximately eight feet. Hunters fight with a fuel rod gun integrated directly into their armor. They carry an enormous and nearly-impervious metal shield made of an unknown alloy, which they sometimes use as a melee weapon. Notes: Hunters are used by the Covenant to protect valuable installations and serve as a last line of defense against you. They are extremely well-armed and armoured, with thick shields that deflect your fire, and Fuel Rod Guns, capable of seriously wounding you and your allies. Not much is known about the Hunters. While some have theorised that they are cybernetically augmented Elites in some kind of mechanised armour, their blood colour, behaviour, and mannerisms seem inconsistent. Obviously, they are tremendously strong, and armed with heavy weaponry. They are well-armoured and resilient, with spikes on their backs that apparently can be used as weapons. Their position in the Covenant society is at this point unknown. -Hunters have a large orange section of their armour. A single Pistol or Sniper Rifle hit capable of killing the Hunter if it is hit there. It is also possible to kill a Hunter in its non-combat form by shooting it in the neck with the said weapons. Hunters spurt bright orange blood when they are hit in their weak spots. -Running right up to a Hunter will stop him from charging his Fuel Rod gun, at which point he will try to melee you with his shield. -You will always face Hunters in groups of two. Hunters tend to operate near large groups of other Covenant. -Hunters don't use cover and move very slowly. Pistol: The best weapon in the game against Hunters, the Pistol can kill a Hunter with a single shot to the orange. Either hang back and shoot when he shows his vulnerable spot (perhaps while being distracted by an ally), or run up to him and coax him into meleeing you, at which point you should dodge and shoot his back. Assault Rifle: A horrible anti-Hunter weapon, you will need to expend many a clip to take a Hunter down. If you must though, aim for the orange. Shotgun: A proficient weapon against Hunters. Let them try and melee you, then duck, run up to their back and shoot. One or two hits will down him. Sniper Rifle: Much like a longer ranged Pistol. Wait till they turn and hit them in the back. Rocket Launcher: While it's generally better to save precious rockets for enemy vehicles, the RL is still a viable option against Hunters. Quite good against them, though it can take a few hits, depending on where the rockets strike. Frag Grenade: Not really worth the trouble. Taking down a Hunter with grenades is comparable to taking down a Wraith with fuel rods. The difference is, you have a limit to your grenades. It is possible, though you will probably go into your Plasma Grenade stocks before they die. Not really practical, considering you will be fighting two of them. Try to back up your grenades with another weapon. Plasma Rifle: Not that great, though better than the AR. Not much to say here. Just fire at the soft spot. If you have a decent amount of battery, you should finish him off before you deplete it. Plasma Pistol: About on par with the AR. Maybe a little better. The semi-auto fire and fast overheats limit the Plasma Pistol's effectiveness against Hunters. If you can't drop it for something better, you should try to shoot the Hunter in the orange until the weapon overheats, then continually whack. The Hunter should drop after twenty seconds or so. Needler: Not too bad, provided you pump as many needles as possible into the weak spots. It'll take a few clips, but he'll eventually drop. Plasma Grenade: See Frag Grenade Warthog: The LAAG will take down a Hunter after about ten seconds of solid fire. However, a better idea would be to simply run the Hunter down. Be sure to stay in close range, as a single fuel rod will flip your vehicle. Scorpion: A proficient anti-Hunter vehicle. Keep out of their weapons range and shell them. Try and make sure you get direct hits. Fuel rods aren't too much of a hazard at long range, so don't worry too much about retaliation. Ghost: Don't bother with fire unless you want him stunned; simply use the Ghost's agility to squelch the Hunter. Charge, and the Hunter will jump away, pausing after landing, at which point he can be crushed. Banshee: While you could hang back and bombard with fuel rods, a far more effective (and satisfying) way to dispatch a Hunter is simply to crash into him from a dive. If he dodges the dive, swing your wings around, and if that fails, try again. This method saves time, and seems a good deal more fulfilling. :) |
